What is Bu-Mako?
Bu-mako the word literally means life source… it is a hybrid of two words from Luganda and Hebrew native languages of the two founders, Jenifa Mayanja and Mookie Kayam.
We derive life energies not only from breath, water, food but also from sources such as music which by allowing us to carve out spaces for deeper exploration of ourselves we are able to nourish our own humanity.
Bu-mako’s existence therefore is to establish a peaceful environment physically and existentially that is supportive of progressive, dynamic and timeless exploration of musical ideas. To that end Bu-mako presents monthly dance parties in private spaces around New York City as well as concept mixed cds reflecting seasonal moods and elements.
Bu-mako founder Jenifa Mayanja has also branched out with the beginnings of the Bu-Mako label which features her musical works and the works of selected artists to be featured in the future. |
